how do you get the back seats down when the previous owner broke one of the pull thingies to unclip the backrest?

If you push the plastic ring down on the top of the seat-back you will see the threaded bar that the plastic knob screws onto. you should be able to pull it with a pair of pliers. Or put a bit of rolled up card inside the plastic knob and screw it back on. The cardboard worked for me as mine had a crack right down it and kept coming off in my hand.

I broke one of those clips on mine, just unscrewed the other side and used that. Then found a couple of replacements from a toyota in a breakers yard.

Unfortunately no one seems to want to ship one to the UK (The only people that did wanted $90 shipping!!!)

I like the idea of these as they will roll up fairly small and should be comfortable!

They list the 4runner as a one size fits all application.. so I don't kow how great fit is!
