  • Anyone thought about this.....

I had this idea some time back about using a Surf that has been broken for bits and using the back half as a trailer.

I've seen this done in the VW campervan world loads of times with cars ranging from beetles up to old campervans.

There is this article I have found
    http://www.doityourself.com/stry/qnatrucks4

which kinda makes it sound quite a do-able option.

    Any thoughts guys?

I mean any size trailer today even a ali one from Halfrauds is gonna cost over a ton.

      I can't see why not.

Honestly I have seen loads of these sorts of things at VW events. Golfs pulling chopped up Golf trailers, Beetles towing half beetle trailers etc.

They usually use the back end and to be honest most look safer than a lot of the conventional road trailers.

              "A Car and a Half"

They have used the back half of a 306 for the trailer

At work so can't post pics but it looks well finished

There is a monster show truck called Majestic, that tows the back half of a pickup around as a trailer.

The only problems I can forsee is the weight issue, and what to do about the rear tailgate, and all the glass, and the rear axle, would it need to have oil in it?

Got a point there, think it'd be easier to use a hilux pick-up. Less stuff to worry about, plus it's already to act as a load carrying bay.
