I just dont fancy going all that way on pretty aggressive mud tyres. I might even put the BFGs on another set of wheels if I can afford it... Got 18 months to sort out anyway.

LOL - assuming the roof could survive the weight of all those tyres, I'd love to see the projectile it would all become in an emergency stop!

C of G would also be interesting off road, as you'd now have the rack full of road tyres.

How about one of those nice off road capable trailers (just a shame about the plough that is a trailer hitch).......

I meant ONLY take the ATs, and leave the muds at home. Pyrenees in august? Dry, sandy, gravelly, rocky? Muds will be the wrong tyre.

Mud tyres will be great on rocks and gravel sufaces, and who know, it may p155 down with rain in August, stranger things have happened.

What size were they Woodzie? Seen em in 33" for just less than £100 a pop, so £430 for 5 is pretty cheap.

Yeah, nice tyre them Rob. Its agressive but not so aggressive as to be nasty on a long trip. Mine are. The BFG MT style centre blocks make them good on the road like my old Kumhos in the same style.



Deffo leaning towards a set of steels with 33" ATs, and keeping the muds purely for... well... mud!

Yeah, mine are not too noisey on the road, just a gentle hum, which goes away when the radio is turned up, and the seem to handle ok apart from hard breaking in the wet, when I have to be aware that they will skid.

Off road, I'm well pleased with the way they performed ( on both the Wales trips) and in some axle deep mud locally.

As you say, some A/t's will be adequate for 95% of the terrain encountered in the pyrenees in summer, and will give a smoother ride and better mpg on the trip to and from.

I've got to put a list of mods together for the trip, and a list of spares to take along, and I'm expecting the cost to come to somewhere what I paid for the truck.

Some bits I think will need to be done don't count as mods, but will cost as much, ie; new clutch and full exhaust.

Give me a call - I want to discuss you, me and Apache sorting out a convoy and which ferry crossing we will use.

It might be easier for Plumb Bob to meet us halfway and do a Northern France crossing rather than Dover - Calais.

Just watched the vids - good grief its going to be a long year............

At least we will have a better Toyota turnout than all those LR's you have to put up with (although there were some nicely prepared rigs).
