Html is horrendous stuff to use in e-mails. It's another of those things we have to blame the mighty Micro$hite for setting in action. Firstly, it imposes extra load on filter systems due to the fact that it has several times more content to scan. Secondly, it bloats the e-mail size by a large factor which in turn imposes more load on everything due to the extra size, as there's more information to transmit, hence, again, more server load and bandwidth usage. Thirdly, to suggest that as a general remedial measure is just lunacy. Encouraging the use of html e-mails is not smart. Even if you do toggle how a MUA views an e-mail, (provided it even has that functionality), it'll show it in the format you've selected, by stripping out the relevant text if needs be. There's a good reason why most *nix MUA's don't allow sending e-mails as html.
Granted, for marketing material, there's a tenuous argument for using html in the body content, but it is tenuous at best. A plain text summary with a link to the relevant URI is just as useful and doesn't broadcast cartloads of unnecessary data to everyone.
I'll take your word for it as you lost me waaaay back.
some people don't really give a monkeys what format their email arrives in... if it has some fancy formatting and looks jazzed up a bit, all the better!!
what gets my goat is when email i want to read is sent to the junk file... then i complain to frogs island and look a ####.
