  • I have just used veg oil!

I thought there is no point in putting it off so,

yesterday i put 6ltr of veg in with 15ltr diesel and there was about 1/4 tank of fuel in the tank already. Only thing that i noticed was the faint smell of fried food. Today with an empty tank i have put in 18ltrs veg with 40ltrs diesel. The only difference is it really smells of fried food, makes me hungry!

Anyway it doesn't seem to be at all lumpy and i might even go as far to say it sounds smoother! (so far so good)

I have read through the posts with regards paying the duty on the veg oil (fuel producer) and am i correct in thinking that is no longer necessary? just want to check as its quite obvious to anyone with a sense of smell what it is running on.

I have been getting the Sainsburys 3ltr bottles £2.21 for 3ltr just under 74p per ltr. Is there anywhere cheaper in Kent?
If it can be broken it can be fixed

Well done, and welcome to the dark, fishy side

You do not have to pay duty PROVIDING you use less than 2500 litres in a year, you DO have to keep records of what you use for 6 years.

I use Sainsbury's for my oil and yes you can tell when you use veg.

Remember using Veg will help come MOT time as it reduces your emissions

        Thanks.

My uncle's Toyota Hiace once was tested 3 times during mot as they thought there testing machine was faulty due to the low emissions he also runs on veg!

Great idea, but not verry manly driving around smelling of primrose oil. imagine how nice central London would smell if everyone did that there!

Good luck over here in the Veg Side. Be careful with the mix given the cold weather.

All the supermarkets are about the same price, its not even any cheaper at the cash and carries.
I am running 50% with no problems, the main thing is it brings down the effective price of a litre of diesel to something a little bit more manageable.

As yours is a 3rd gen, you could try a blend of Diesel and Tresemme...

Been running 50 / 50 since august and can only report NO problemo!

went to tesco last sunday and was surprised to find they actually had two 15ltr tins of ktc on the shelf (usually out of stock)
When i checked the price i realised why!
              15 ltr tin = 83ppl
              3ltr tesco svo = 74ppl

Keep your eyes open guys there's a lot of variety in prices at the mo!

if you're ever up thanet way it's worth popping into the big tesco round the corner from the Westwood Cross, in amongst all their oriental food supplies they normally have a good selection of 15 & 20 litre cartons and tins, if you can get something there at a decent price you should then be able to place a regular order for it at your local stores customer service desk.

The cheapest oil I've found is the pura oil brand. Both Tesco's and Sainsburys sell it but only in 1ltr bottles. You have to place a bulk order for it at customer services and its 56p/ltr. I have a costco account and for their cheapest 20ltr drum it works out at 70p/ltr so it works out as fair bit cheaper buying the pura stuff.
You have to allow them 7-10 days to order it in though.

                            WHERE?????

How does the 15ltr Tesco drums work out per ltr as there is a large tesco not too far from me.

                            The pura stuff sounds good!

The engine will be quieter once warmed up because there's effectively a smaller 'bang' from veg oil cos its calorific value (?) is lower than diesel. You need a bit more for the same power, but its not a huge difference.

I never notice a difference going from diesel to a veg/diesel blend, but going from a blend back to straight diesel I notice a bit of an increase in oomph.
