water pump getting off / fitting on

i think my water pump bearing on my 2.4, has give up the ghost. any one fitted one before?
can you do it with out removing the crank pully . will the timing cover open and bend to get the pump out?
ive took the viscus fan off , the pully seat is wobbling about like mad but no water leak! is this a common fault ?
is it hard to do? any tips would be helpfull.
has anyone took viscus fan off and put electric one on?

See MattF for the electric fan set up on "that" thread in the modification section, you'll need to remove the crank pully, dont think the timeing cover will bend that far, pump replacement's easy enough tho, when i had the trouble with my pully tho i cut the bottom off the cover so i dont have to disturb the pully, probably a no no but wtf, long as i dont drive headlong into
deep mud, new pump from roughtrax or milners, make up a bar to hold the crank while your removeing the bolt, best to remove the front two pully's from the harmonic ballencer to enable you to bolt the "tommy" bar on,

just make sure you torque up the bolt, last pic is waht happened when i forgot

do the water pumps calaps a lot? or mainly leek ?
if i leave the air con belt off will this help the engine run a bit more freely ?
some take the viscus fan off all together and leve the heater fan on all the time, ( les drag on the engine ) or put a elctric one on in stead, any thoughts on this any one?

thanks mate, i thought about cutting the cover too, then i would use a glue gun to weld it back to gether again, ( good trick dont you think )

I've never had a problem with my pump, dont think their prone to leak/wear any more than any motor, the timeing cover is a pain dont see a problem with "glueing" it back together tho, only reason i cut mine is because i furked up the pully and it wore the crank end a bit, chewed up the woodruff key, so i used a little chemicle metal when i fitted the new one, and in case it was near impossible to get off again i cut the cover, keep meaning to stick the bottom bit back on,

i think he used a jag electric fan, and rewired the set up through a5 pin cross over relay, i've done a similar job with my back up fans (got three fitted in total) as with matts they fire up through the original temp sensor (from a corolla) and ya can switch em on manually and thier wired live so they run on after the ign's switched off unlike the original set up, if you would like me to post my wireing diag let me know, it aint an electricion's proper job but it's how i understand it,

I have just had a new water pump and rad fitted they were full of sludge and rust. looks like a previous owner ran it without antifreeze or inhibiter cost £420 cause the fitting is a pain, air con in way???

gotta get head replaced next going in on wednesday

the pump they took off the barings were shot but the impeller was fine

You've been unlucky with it, those 3 door's are nice tho, worth it,
