  • Tow a van question

Will towing a tow a van double axle trailer everyday all day be too much for my little 2.4. As you know it's had a Stevo head and rebore recon engine as well.

I will need it to tow everyday but don't want to part with it especially as it's all Apache fied with the new graphics.

I want to use it for my wifes business which now requires a small box van. But if I buy a small box van I need 2 vehicles a van and a motor for weekends family trips shopping etc.

So I hope trailer for business and truck for what I do now ie having fun and launching Orca.

Anyone else use their truck as a commercial
insurance will obviously go up to £450 but that's to be expected.

    Cheers JB

I would be giving it a go long before I would get rid of the Surf mate
Never driven a 2.4 but the 3.0 tows decent weight like it's not there.

I used a tow a van from Ayrshire to my Highland home and it was slow on the hills that was before the engine gave up though so it may have been lacking power due to the old engine.

I can get the trailer all sign written have the buisness all enclosed in the trailer so when she's not working the buisness sits at the side of the house all contained.

I don't want the fuel costs to be the deciding factor but then would it be just as expensive to buy and run a 2ltr small box van?

hi john,if youve had all that work done then it should be fine.a little body lift and an intercooler mod will not only give you a little more power but it will also help to cool the beast down as well.

I used to tow my 1750kg Abbey Spectrum twin axle Caravan every weekend & it never struggled. Temp was fine on hills it did creep up slightly on steep hills but soon recovered.

The lovely boyo done a good install. It was a shogun 2.8 intercooler he used. I got mine ( or should i say, i've paid ) for 4.99. Silicone hoses are dear though, you'll possibly have to spend about £80 on all the gubbins and not forgettin a bonnet scoop. I'll go look for the link......................

                    tut tut

all you guys keep buying these coolers and then what??????????

                    just do it!

http://toyotasurf.asn.au/techsite/in...lingpajero.htm - for info on my setup

BTW - I found that fitting a tranny cooler helps way more than an intercooler to keep things lovely and cool like!

How about the tech weekend being

                        How to fit an intercooler.

I have jigsaw and will happily cut any bonnet, no problemo!
