On a standard ride height Gen 2, what depth water can I safely drive through before needing a snorkel? I drove through a ford today that read 2 feet deep and SWMBO thought we were gonna be swept out to sea or summat. Shall I get one anyway cos they look cool?

Up to the top of the bumper, or just below the headlights. The air intake is just behind the passenger headlight, so no deeper than that.

I measured the air inlet height at something like 31" once, on a 5" lifted Surf. Soooo, I guess you were bl00dy close!

Snorkel isn't really there so you can wade to the top of your windscreen. Treat it as an insurance policy.

Oh, and they do look cool.

I went over bonnet depth before the snorkel, but i did have the elbow on the dirty side of the airbox disconnected from the intake and turned 90 degrees. But i wouldn't recommend going that deep, the standard air intake is behind the passenger headlight. So anywhere close to or over that is risky to say the least.

I guess I will be getting one then thanks for the pics, I'm sold!
I did think about turning the intake round to help, but I may as well just do it properly. Is TonyN the man to buy from still?

Nero: fancy doing a Kent meet soon to introduce me to a few lanes?

Oh and Andy, all this is your bl00dy fault anyway, what with all your postings and pics on newsgroups.talk last year!

aha! Jonny 77! Which one are you then?

Go for Safari if you're doing it yourself. Easier to fit. If not, they both do the same for the same price!

I am Jon Green, in the (now) main workshop at FHD. Dont worry, the likes of Ian P etc are still being pedants and post whoring all day long.
You have missed out on the wonderful FISP replacement - iCAS, or iCANT as it should be known as it cant seem to pay anyone so our accounts get put on hold, like with RS and Shell, etc etc.
                        Nowt changes.
Hope things have worked out for you leaving anyway.
