If you remove Vista you can install XP. However, some programmes are unlikely to work.

if you got vista business then call microsoft for a new license key free of charge.
then you need to do a fresh install. so you will lose everything on the vista machine. make sure its backed up

hes got a xp disc and licence which he is going to use so he don't have to pay someone else to do it for him

microsoft give vista business users downgrade rights if they want to go back to xp professional. you just need to call them for a license

does anyone actually warranty the software? isnt it only the hardware that has a warranty on?

Unless he has a genuine stand alone copy Vista cd and also a driver disk he may encounter problems when installing XP. XP will not not normally overwrite Vista, a message will appear telling him that he is running the latest version of the operating system. He may have to fdisk and reformat the hard drive before he can instal Windows XP.

If he was supplied with a recovery disk for Vista this normally has the operating system and the drivers for that make and model of computer installed on it. He may have to download XP drivers from the manufacturers site for graphics, sound, modem, lan etc. if he instals a copy of XP.

Hope this helps. I could give you the long winded version but I would by typng all night!
