  • my first BT phone (rip off) bill

can i ask for some info from you that have BT as your provider?

ive just recieved my first bt phone bill - i am using a bt line, and will go with someone else for the broadband only... no telephone.

    my bill is £37.50!!!

they have said they do it quarterly so this means £11x3 = £33

the £4.50 is a 'payment processing fee'

is this right? every 3 months they charge £4.50 for sending a letter on top of their line rental charge and im not even using them?
    Oh Nana, what's my name?

?? I think if you pay by Direct debit you don't get charged the above!

I have BT line rental only - £36.38

I am still on BT together option 1 as I havent changed it since transferring call charges to Sky.

Direct debit - no extra charges
How can I be lost when I've got no where to go

bibs how comes your bill is 36.38?

            £11 per month line rental X 3 months = Not 36.38...

if i go direct debit then they can take whatever payment they like, but if it saves me £4.50 then it might have to do

chillitt how much is the talk talk? im leaving tiscali as it doesnt work for me! and they refuse to fix it.
basically whenever i make changes to the router they sent me, the default gateway crashes. so i went out and spent £79.99 on a netgear adsl router. it connects but i get the same issue. the default gateway is a public ip. its not an issue at my end unless its my bt line that is causing an error and their server then crashes and crashes my network line. i wasted plenty of time already trying to sort it with them

thanks for your help by the way. i thought i was being raped. -seems i am but i can prevent it next time

I'm currently in dispute with them for exactly the same thing, I'm self employed so I dont want to pay direct debit as my money comes in at different times.

I also pay online so there is noone on the end of a telephone that they have to pay, So far I have refused to pay this charge 3 times and have incurred a late payment charge of £7.50 because of this twice. I just take it off the bill and pay the rest, when I first questioned it they threaterened to cut me off and have a restricted service only but that was ages ago and I'm still using it and the excess is still mounting.

I suspect they will start something soon, I have complained to ofcom and they are investigating maybe thats why they have not done anything yet. The other reason maybe because the only reason I have it is for my sky + and broadband, all phone calls go through my mobile so they will never get any more money from me anyway.

Balls to them as far as I'm concerened I will never pay it.

hi mate, and welcome to the forum!
from what i understand, the £11 is just for the actual physical rental of the cables in the little green boxes. the tiscali or talk talk connection is then switched to them using bt's wires.
they never told me about this charge so i will call them and do a direct debit. the thing is tho, a direct debit gives them full control over my bank account.

years ago, we had a dial up freephone number. bt some how managed to charge us for this. as you could imagine a freephone number was on almost 24/7 downloading mp3's etc... the bill came to £500 for that month. and they told us it was our fault!

Don't start me on BT, rip off meachents, and their bills don't add up. Been trying to leave them since 12th Sep, but no one else can get a clear signal from the line.

remember to always ask them a security question when they call.... just to make sure it's really BT.

and if they ever ask your mothers maiden name, tell them she died.

                            i hate security questions!!!
nee nar nee nar, i'm a fire engine!
