                Have never seen overlays available.

However as quiet a few members seem to have memory map, maybe we can all create our own layers and share them.

There are some available as part of the wayfinder project, i'll get details in a bit. The accuracy of them is sketchy at best though.

I was thinking along the lines of forum members checking the lanes out. Then if ok either posting grid ref of start / finish or creating the track overlay and posting it.

http://www.wayfinderproject.co.uk/ was set up by an offshoot of glass, i did have an account which i didn't have to pay for and i used the overlay exporter available on that site, but i can't log in, could be cos i haven't used it for so long my account has been shut down, or i used a different username an forgot what it was. Either way i can't get in now. But like i said you can get overlays from there but they were a touch sketchy.

I started last month building up a spreadsheet of Kent's byways. It took me about 6 hours using memory map to mark up (hopefully) every byway in the region, as and when i go out on new lanes i add them to a spreadsheet with the headings AREA - DESCRIPTION - FROM GR - TO GR - EXPLORE KENT REF. - EXPLORE KENT STATUS - BYWAY NAME - STATUS - DATE CHECKED - NOTES

Area - general location to identify a group of lanes for those that came on the recent run the afternoons lanes would have all been grouped under 'crundale'

Description - more specific description of which lane it refers to ie) Glider Club Lane refers to a lane which runs right up the side of charing glider glub. I also use farm names etc that are marked on the OS map to quickly identify which specific lane it is without having to check the grid references

FROM GR and TO GR - OS grid references for start and finish of the lane

EXPLORE KENT REF. - refers to http://extranet7.kent.gov.uk/explorekentgis/map.aspx a council operated website, by zooming in on the lane and clicking it you can get a reference no. the glider club lane mentioned above has the reference AW51

EXPLORE KENT STATUS - the status shown on the above website ie footpath/BOAT/restricted byway/bridleway, for the purposes of driving they need to be BOATs (although there are a few where the website doesn't tally up and a few missing from the website)

BYWAY NAME - some of the byways have a name, either officially or unofficially, but if i know of a name that people know the lane by i put it in here

Status and Date checked - refers to what the RoW office tell me about the lane when i call them whilst planning a trip status so far has always been open, but if they were to tell me it was TROd or closed for some other reason i'd put that in here, and the date i phoned to check.

Notes - If there's anything significant to note about a lane i put it in here, examples so far are 'Although open probably impassable 22/11/07' or 'V. Scratchy 10/11/07' it's just somewhere to make extra notes if i want them.
