have you ever been a member of the buysell cortina forum mick????
Not that I can remember, computors only picked premium bond numbers when I had my mk2,s. though I still fondly look at them in the autotrader. Wish I still had mine now the price they are fetching. Also had 2 moggy vans with mg midgit engines in em. A little wolf in sheeps clothing although I had to carry spare half shafts in the back!

What colour was yours? I had an early maroon one with the dials above the dash and an amber gold H reg. Will give that site a look. Them where the days when you could almost climb into the engine bay and shut the bonnet behind you. Them engines were so easy to work on. I used to re-seat my valves every few months and be driving it again in a day!

Sorry Stein, I thought you had a mk2. You put a v8 in a cortina? then stuck it in a surf? Nice one! Up here in Enfield, they have an Enfield Pagent of the motor car from classics to custom cars. Not sure if they have a web site but well worth a visit in the summer. Enfield council will fill in the missing details.
For a tin-box mass producer Ford used to make some great cars. My first motor was a Mk2 Cortina 1600 and two after that was a 1600E. Later I had one of the 'proper' Escort RS Turbos and then an XR4x4 (both in the only colour available - white). The RS probably holds my record for the car I nearly killed myself in the most and the XR is still the best car I've ever owned - even if I did break the gearbox mainshaft in two
Saw the Cortina programme when it was first on, brought back some memories.
Started off with a Prefect 107E,
then a MII Consul,
then a Cortina MkI,
then a MKII (fitted a 1600E engine in that),
then a MKIII,
then a MKIV (took the engine out of a 2l Granada that I had and fitted that in - did it go!).
Was a Ford Man all the way until the Sierra. Decided that had no style and was cr*p so went Japanese from there on in, Nissan & Toyota.

XR4X4 (2.9)was a brilliant car, the chassis/under-pinings were used on the Escort Cosworth too! Different engine obviously.
