They protect your cars doors and door sills.
Make it easier to get in the cab.
Great in shopping car parks with trolleys & idiots car doors slamming into you lovely paint.
Less time in the panel shop = more time to 4wd & more cash for the extra 4wd goodies you want.
Remember make sure there engineered strong & secured in a way they wont buckle when you vehicle needs them.

Seen em bend and hit panels. Not difficult to believe they'd trap you in if you bent them enough! The mount isn't strong enough (on the Surf anyway) to withstand a hit.Cutting steps in the roof of the world

I totally agree with u. They do protect the sills to a certain extent yes. But to be honest, when they do, they bend up into the rear wheel arch extensions.
Pappy things, replace them with some proper sliders.
