BEAD BLAST or SAND BLAST not heard of a grit one

Grit blaster or Gritblaster. Very efficient at getting down to bare metal. Look in the back of any 4x4 mag (LandRover Owner International is open on my desktop) and look under accessories and parts for examples.

LROI is a good source for the sort of kit I like. Now, who's got a grit blaster - I'll pay to use it!

wont those DESERT WINDS sandblast it clean for you?
the other option is look in the autotrader theres usually wheel refurbishers in there. blast & laquer

I don't want to refurb - I just want to clean up some light rust on my old 'cruiser split rims (16"), give them a spray of undercoat and then fit some tubed Michelin XZL's on them. That way I can then sell my BFGs to recoup a little of the costs!

I use wire wool and a squirt of WD40, it cleans the pitt marks off a treat and polishes the wheels nicely leaving a small amount of oil as a barrier.
If youre going to lacquer them, then I would suggest cleaning them with a mild detergent first, making sure it's all washed off before lacquering.

have you tried bg penny's on rowley's green ?
it's been a few years since ive used them but i seem to remember they do everything from vapour,fine alloy oxide to iron oxide blasting.
i would recomend u use the lightest blast media that will do the job,if u use heavy stuff on alloy it will look like the moon surface and take about 200 microns depth of paint to fill it.

Just to sick my 2 peneth in, I would recomend bead blasting, which leaves a polished finish or water blasting to leave a mirror finish. Grit or sand blasting is a no no on aluminium as it removes the alloy as well. Hope this helps
