How would the DVLA know to register the vehicle on a 'P' plate if they didnt know the date the vehicle was first registered or delared new? They would get the date of manufacture / first reg from the import document wouldnt they?.

Sounds to me like the DVLA are trying to pull a fast one on imports that are older than 4 years but are 'new' to the UK since Mar 2006

    Incidentally my V5 states -
    Date of first registration 07/2003
Special notes states - Registered/Used overseas. delared manufactured 1992

I actually think it's laziness on the part of the DVLA or original importers, not getting the V5 documents right in the first place that's caused the current problems, however much the media and the govt. in general may try and shaft the 'uneconomical motorist' (read 4x4 driver). If the documents were right in the first place the rwenewal notices that are automatically generated would have the correct amount on.
