Buy him a phonecard from ZAPTEL.com He can call you for 3cents per min from any phone, by simply calling a US freephone no, then entering his pin, then your number. You can buy 20 dollars or whatever on line, and they send you a pin and the access number. Dead easy and dead good. I use them all the time

Can you find a US number you can call him on ?

If so get an account with www.voipcheap.co.uk and get cheap or free calls to the US, and then you can call him.

have you looked at voipcheap.com? they bill in euros are the same company but for some wierd reason are a little cheaper

You can also buy global GSM cards, not sure what the call rate to the number is (I don't call myself) but with work I have one in my phone, and it's the same number everywhere, and I save a fortune on calls to the UK - it's about 32p per min.....card costs around £30
