  • Dash mounting TOMTOM

I have been thinking of mounting my TOM TOM into the dash. I was going to remove the two air vents above the radio on the center consul. Any one got any thoughts on this? I want it so i can still remove it when its not needed.

me too. I was think either on or in the dash, i am sure the mounting bracket can be adapted to fix on to the dash. Would it be a problem to remove the vents? The air flow would still be there which may be an issue if the vents are on hot. Is there any where else to dash mount one?

Dunno how practical it would be. You'll probably find that the system has a lot harder time locking onto the GPS signals when it's obscured by the dashboard.

External antenna would solve that one.

                You mean something like this?
It's attached using the mounting holes for the handsfree kit.

Yep thats it. I am now thinking of altering the TOMTOM mounting bracket so that i can screw it to the dash, I might have to get an older bracket with the rigid plastic base.

Is that a tv i spy there or reversing camera thingy?

As for removeing the vents, i did it a while back for gauges not sat nav, you'll find a big plastic squarish elbow, i cut the lower half off, tapped it up and stuck it back on to stop hot air comeing out there and being a problem, you gain a lot of room in there, i fitted spare fuse blocks for live and ign feeds plus
panel lights and an earth block, mind i did away with the useless cup holders too, see if i can find any pics of the inside etc
                    Sorry it's a bigun

useless cup holder indeed - it holds one (well two actually) of them insulated mugs well, even offroad, and still within easy reach
