Tyre Age

Is there any marking on a tyre that would identify it's age?
I have some Yokohama's on mine which seem to be rather dubious in the wet. They skid and lose traction easily, enough for my wife to bend my A bar in a collison in the rain. I'm wondering if the tyres are shot.

I know that on motorbikes they lose the grip as the rubber hardens with age.

I've never heard of any good reports of Yokohama tyres in the wet, whatever the vehicle they're fitted to. They seem more of a performance/dry road tyre to me, not for a 2 ton 4x4.
I would get new rear tyres with a more chunky tread like an A/T.

I had all 4 changed on my import , even though the tread was at 6mm on all. they were badly cracked and rubber had gone hard, pretty dangerous in the wet too. Had my sphincter grabbing cloth a few times , they were bridgestone duellers from when the surf was made in 1994 as it had only covered 10k when i bought it in 2005.

I've got Yokohama Geolander H/T's on mine, with about 5mm of tread left, which look like they have been on there for years. Never yet had any problems in the wet, although I've managed to get the rear to spin when pulling away uphill recently in Wales when I had the rears pumped up to 35psi for towing the van, but without it on the hook. Otherwise I just take it a little steadier in the wet.

i always use 4wd in the wet. alot safer.

Last night i nearly ended up in a ditch!!! 60mph speed limit, Im doing 45 because its just THAT bad out there!! Go around a bend and hit a huge puddle, Waters about 20ft in the damn air, Lost all visibilty and traction for a good 15 seconds.... Cant wait to get my MTs fitted.... whoop!!

Mud tyres can be worse in the wet than A/t's

had mine sideways early(5 am) this morning,and im on muds,you have to be a bit more careful when you hit puddles

Can you do the same things as trees? cut into them, then count the rings????

Oh and Rod - M/Ts are not nearly as good in the rain as A/Ts - unless you are driving in a field.....
