Can't send you a PM Tony (my subs haven't been paid up - must sort that) so I'll drop you a line through your site.

I can see a trip down to you on the cards though!

            Right,

Managed to get a few photos done. Any chance you lot can give me an honest opinion on whether it's worth getting this work done or whether I'm on a trip to £££ each year in MoT bills?

looking at those pics then i would of said that just about everyhting could have a good rub down and undersealed/waxoiled.The upper wishbone on the o/s looks a bit close to the mark but the rest i would say is ok and just needs a clean up.You don't need to spend loads on it as far as i can see from the pics but someone else may think you might but see what replies you get from the people more in the know on the mot side of things and go from there

Heh - I noticed that and thought that has to stay in the picture.

One thing the truck does well is cull mini wildlife - always having to clean the insect graveyard off the front.

Popped the bonnet the other day and found a whopping big dragonfly which had lost an argument with the radiator.

As I suspected, most of all the rust is superficial, a good rub down with a wire brush and a couple of spray cans on satin black Hammerite and it'll look good as new. Seriously!

I think your MOT guy over reacted a tad to be honest.

i think over reacted is a bit of an under statement aint it Vince.I would be inclined to take up to Tonyn and get him to change the odd bits that do need doing and get him to mot it aswell for you and get everything cleaned up a bit

Bit of an update for you...

The missus said to me on Saturday "It's a pain they didn't pick this up on the Toyota service, otherwise you could have been expecting it and done something sooner" - which had me smacking myself round the head for stupidity!

I put the truck in for a local Toyota main dealer service in July because I was driving to the Austrian alps and Holland (two separate long trips and my european breakdown cover needed to see some official stamps - thought I'd treat her...).Looked back at the service report and, sure enough, no mention of suspension issues at all.

To cut a long story short, I went into see them and they got the truck in for an inspection. They completely disagree with the MOT given by the other place, but admit they should have mentioned the corrosion in the service as something to think about for the future.

Anyway, they were very apollogetic about it (the missing advisory on the service) and have done me a second MOT which has only the brake pipes as needing to be done (which they did mention on the service). The service manager is sorting me out new brake pipes and a nice green certificate for about £400. Sounds a bit harsh for brake pipes to me, but it's better than their standard price which is around £700 (including MOT price) and I get my truck back on the road!

The main thing is that your truck ain't as bad as 1st thought.Glad you got it sorted tho.The best thing to do as soon as you get it back anf thats to get it totally waxoiled/undersealed to protect the underneath.Ask for any advisories also so that you can work to get them sorted over the next year before the next mot

Yep - that sounds like a good plan.

Is undersealing a standard thing that most garages can do, or should I be looking for someone special to do it (my only two previous cars were a montego and a 19 year old scirocco, so it's not something I've ever thought about before )?

if you can lay your hands on air compressor you could do it yourself a lot cheaper
Only Toyota can get you out of shite

it depends on the garage on how much they charge but down here i can get my truck done for £60-£100.You can do it yourself or ask if any forum members in your area can do it for you if they have the kit
