We measured off all those boards just using string to keep the line and spirit level to keep them level, and they met in the final corner about 1mm out.

We did have a laser - but it wasn't much good in full sunlight!

The ground level was done by eye and by lining up on the top of the boards from one side to the other. It isn't dead flat, but is pretty damn close.

We are very lucky from a drainage POV as it's about 6 inches of soil onto solid chalk. This morning there were a couple of little puddles but nothing to get stressed about - and with 8" of surface going on those little level differences won't notice.

Actually for perfection we've probably made it a bit too flat - a slight slope helps with drainage. But I'm not bothered - it will be 100% better than a muddy field.

Well the rain didn't stop, gap in the hedge trapped both Artic's in the mire, so they dumped the stuff where they were, and I pulled them out with the dumper truck!!

On the bright side, TJM's 8000kg snatch straps cam pull a 40ton truck out of axle deep mud, with a big digger! (not a surf, no matter how you great you think they are...!)

We now have two huge piles of Cushionride wood chips at the opposite end of the fields to the arena!
