On the diesel pump at the end of the throttle arm there is like a hydraulic damper which slows the decelaration down. does anyone know why this is there and can it be discarded without any detrimental effect?

I think its for cold start, when engine is cold it pushes revs up 1 or 2hundred, if you discard it i dont think it would make much difference cos this country aint that cold.(if its the part your talking of that is)
if it is deceleration , then itll stop engine cutting out from revs dying quicklyWithout Surf And Unhappy
