  • Ive removed my aircon and rad. Want to put intercooler in bash plate.

Anyone know where i can cheaply buy an intercooler and pipework? I have loads of room so could get a bign. Flexi pipe so i can route it myself, or sumfin. Could i just go wiv an intercooler from s$$$$ yard on another car?

Does an intercooler help to prevent head probs?

Put it on the top, otherwise it will get full of $$$$ when you drive around offroad, or on the road, full of dirt, gunge, small stones etc....top mount it!!!!

I'd put it on top or in front of the rad if you want it there, up to you tho at t'end of day, look on ebay for the intercoolers and on the link i'm about to add,
            doubt you'll get the tubeing from a s c r a p y a r d unless your lucky,

Thanks very much for the advice, it seems top mounting is a very popular choice for obvious reasons. If i top mount it, it would need to be slim to fit under bonnet and also not too wide as theres not alot of width between the two mounts ie turbo to manifould.

Sorry seen the full stop thing done elsewhere, will be more patient in future.

You rememebr the links, and the word doc I sent you????

Well, top mount does require a body lift (min 1.5") and you mount it above the block - and one other MAJOR advantage of a top mount is, the silicone tubing you will need to connect it all up will cost a small fortune, so, with a top mount, you don't need too much of it - with a front mount, you'll need yards of the stuff, which may end up costing more than your truck!!!

So - up to you at the end of the day Carl, but the advice I'll give you, is get a body lift, top mount the cooler, and then you won't get it all full of goo - and it will be easier to get to if you need to!

Yes still have the doc, just looked at it again mate, forgot i had that. Looks like ill wait a bit and get the lift done 1.5". first then sort cooler. Looked at hosing costs and yes too much when i could just lift the body and have another mod thrown in doing the cooler.

Thanks again fella, youv given me alot of help up to now, and im gratefull

And one day, you'll be able to spell too....

(just thought I'd get that in before Matt does.....)

The lift keeps the cabin cooler too - you'll increase the airflow over the transmission, which does make a difference...have a look around eblag for a cooler, Boyo, Apache and I have all got Mitsi ones, Apache's is from an L200, mine is from a Shogun, and they all fit nicely in the engine bay...all I have to do now is fit mine.....cut the bonnet etc....

Carl! someone mounted a smallish one to the near side just behind the air filter box and it worked well i believe, no body lift either, you'd best have a good think before you buy as as mudsurfer said that sillycon hose/bends aint cheap, mine were around £19 a bend, i ended up spending about £130 on the sod,

Flippin heck youve offloaded some dosh on that engine havent you? Thanks for that. I have actually removed all the aircon gubbins, and that has left a lardge cavity on the left hand side, my bonnet scoop also send alot of air down there, gonna measure up, but i think top mount is a favourite.
