  • Moving the fuel tank.

Have to be honest, one of the only things i hate about surfs, is the location of the fuel tank. Like some, i run with no side steps, Looks a million times better, in my opinion.

But i hate seeing the fuel tank. Is it possible to relocate it? or do a Ian and get somet else to locate (i imagine) somewhere under the back in the spare tyre recess?

Any advice would be great, but cheap ones are best!

Im not looking to spend a bomb just moving it and if its mega money then i just wont bother!

i suppose it could be put where the underslung would go and you would just need to extend the filler pipe electrics and fuel line so it shouldn't be too bad

On the Oz site, in the tech section, there is a thread (with pictures) on fitting and aux fuel tank, using a Nissan Patrol one I think.

You could use that technique, but just remove the original, if it won't fit in the tyre space.
The aux tank fits where the underslung spare goes.

Cheers guys, i'll have a read up on that. got a SS tank for a scimitar that might not get used. Not sure how many litres it would hold. dont want to end up giving myself a range of 10 miles

            Oil Cooler under rear

I was just about to post about putting my oil cooler up under the rear of mine.
Anyone think of any probs/got any thoughts?
I dont think it will get damaged there and it will be easiler to clean than behind the front valance plus ill be able to have better airflow to my rad.
What about airflow to the cooler up under the back should I make a scoop?

Doesn't the fuel tank limit the maximum rear lift you can have too, without more serious mods?

Bodylift will enable you to simply raise the fuel tank. Personally, I wouldn`t relocate it to the rear.

I been thinking about something similar useing the extra rad i got to help cooling, maybe on the return from heating the veg tank, it'll need protection and some from of air pick up (scoop) to catch the undertow, long as it tucked well up out the way it'll only be the scoop that gets damaged,
same with the tank at the back, nowt to stop ya makeing a decent bash plate, re the oil cooler apart from distance from the engine cant see any probs, nor the fuel tank limiting lift, apatr from the useual fitting longer filler hose and fuel line flexy's,

Trailing arm angles will be steeper with more suspension lift / extension. Fuel tank is in the way when the angles get steep. That would only affect you offroad Ian, and that aint never gonna happen is it?
