    hi all im back
holiday was great, chamonix was the best non sunny, non sand and beach place ive ever been to. great views, and great off roading places. little risky though since its about 18 hours may be more non stop drive from calais (not using the motorway)
nice is very expensive at over £7 per pint. thats what skinted us...
car was superb..... Except i had a fault on the way home.
stoping at traffic lights and roundabouts i noticed that once fully stopped, the car started to roll again as it was in drive and i had to press harder on he break to get it to stop. sometimes it would then start creeping again..
i thought it was me being weak as i had been driving for about 9 hours with only a fuel stop to pour in the last of the veg, and i have some propper agonising sunburn on both legs and chest and back.
so anyway we stopped for a last steak around lyon area and when we set off again i felt the brake pedal all queer. we checked fluid and it was almost empty! i didnt have any spare and luckily 10 mins down road there was a garage that was manned, and had fluid. i topped up, but it emptied just before calais. pedal was really bad but fixed itself. i couldnt see any leaks anywhere although there must be one somewhere. we got home fine.
check the pictures. especially the one off road where you can just see a bog standard panda 750 coming round the corner.

any ideas what my brake prob could be? apart from that, the car is sound. and the very first day was: calais to lyon + detour to belgium = 20 hours solid drive. didnt even switch off to fill up for fuel. revs about 2000 - 2500 pretty much all the time. engine temp a solid level and didnt move. same for oil pressure. the only thing that moved was fuel level

Nice one, good pics, the brakes is probably a rear wheel cylinder gone, pop the wheels and brake hubs off and check for leaks, you'll probably need to replace the shoes too.

this is what i said to my mate. i $$$$ped myself cos we were 14 hours from calais when this happened.
i blame the mountain windy roads. i think some woman went over the edge at one point cos she was overtaking everyone like they do. i braked for one bend and front wheel locked up cos it just started raining. if i didnt keep dabbing the brakes i would of went off the edge of the mountain. put it this way, we were higher than the tops of the trees below.
one funny thing was some other woman in a new clio had done what i did but a few miles earlier where it was just hilly, and she had skidded up the side of a hill. lucky not to roll the car, but it was just parked there up this hill. was well funny.

that is actually an american four runner v8. on the ferry they had a book of 4x4s. i read up on the old land cruisers, toyota BJ's and 4 runner. they didnt have surfs but pretty much same thing. apparently the v8s sold well according to the book. any of you seen one? thats got to be easier getting one of them, than doing a lexus conversion?

They don't bother with "armco" in the Alps coz they'd be costantly repairing it, it's easier to recover the vehicles and charge the owner for it.

I was in the Alps in Meribel for 6 months, and a car went over the edge somewhere on the mountain roads nearly every day, they let the trees catch 'em.

oh yes, i noticed how they dont repair the armco they do have. they just put a cone there.. the french are mental.

on our way back i got so annoyed that i waited ages for a safe overtaking place, when some french div decides to overtake 2 or 3 cars a time to get in front of me to be stuck behind the camper i was stuck behind.
so at a roundabout i went up the dropped curb on two wheels and back infront of him. he was so p*ssed off - i could tell by the hooting of the horn it was funny.!
this happened again: i waited ages for a good place to overtake but someone overtook me. so when they overtook them, i undertook the person they overtook by going on the gravel stuff at the edge of the road. was funny once i done it, but i only thought about what i was doing once i was already doing it. glad i had grip or else i wouldnt be joking about this now. he went mental on his horn as well. crazy french.
