they're generally 90% built these days, just bolt on the wheels and add radio gear.

i built my own 1/10th rc car - kyosho v-one s 2. its a 0.5hp engine, belt drive 4x4 race car. and everything is fully upgradable. so far i have replaced the engine with a 1.2hp OS model, got 2 speed tranny, and some other little bits.

i wish i had bought a 1/5 model as they are smoother and easier round a track. and use a propper engine thats easy to start.

if you want speed go for 1/7 but you will have to be on speed to control the thing. youtube each size and see what you like: 1/5th, 1/7th, 1/10th..

if your going to build a car from complete scratch, i would love to use the 4 cylinder OS boxer 4-stroke engine and make a impreza!
        Oh Nana, what's my name?

I know the feeling, i want all the toys i can (and can't) afford. just don't seem to get the time to play anymore. Always getting asked can you do this or that and work is a pain in the arse , but it does pay for the toys i suppose.

Thar range of Tamiya trucks is very cool. - they do a couple of Hilux shells as well and a cool Tundra. I have seen aftermarket full metal, more realisic looking axles too.... but they cost a fortune!

Tamiya did a Surf in 1:10... it was a 2 door 2nd gen.

I used to be hugely into them until real cars took over... I learnt all my basics in mechanics from them!
