Help!!

Think i've locked up my front diff, i pulled into the shopping center near me and noticed the steering was jumpy, pretty sure i had no 4WD warning light and at first thought it wer a loose wheel or the power steering fluid as i only just refilled it, but it was full to the mark and all wheels were ok, done the shopping and it was terrible driveing home, i clicked the 4wd button several times and no warning light, managed to get it ouside my garage, put it in nuteral and shifted the hi/low lever forward, the 4wd warning come on and now wont go off, tried moveing the truck in reverse in low and just getting a gear grateing noise, the hi/low shift seemed stuck, but after going in for a cuppa it went back into hi and now can get drive on the gear lever but it's still stuck in 4wd with the warning light on,
Have i done it a permanant mischief or wot? had a quick look underneath and all plugs etc seem in place, any help/advise very, very welcome

Is the front prop going round? it shouldn't in 2x4. take the drive plates off from the front hubs so the front wheels will spin freely, and try driving it around again. If it feels better, than something is dodgy in the t/case, front diff or CV's.

Are the vacuum hoses to the front diff the right way round?

Thanks Tony, regarding the front prop i'll check but i assume it's free to rotate (by hand) in 2x4 at least i was able to turn it when i greased the uj's, i've not removed any vac hoses on the trans as far as i know and it's been driveing fine till today, only thing i can think is i've knocked the 4wd button and over done driveing it in 4x4 on tarmac,
(even tried going backwards down out road in case Vince was'nt takeing the pi$$ hehe), i'll have a bugga about with it this afternoon, thanks

with the engine running try putting the auto stick in N or P then move the 4x4 lever back to the H position and press the 4x4 button so it it is in the out position then move the auto leaver to reverse go back a wee bit and then in to drive this is all I had to do!!!!

Ian , is this since you did the body lift ? It could be the lever is fouling the floor and not engaging/disengaging properly . You may need to 'adjust' the floor pan .

Hi, Ross, i think i did what you said before i saw your post, actually dont know WTF i did do but it seems ok now, aint tested it on the road but what i did was jack all four wheels off the deck, the front wheel spun a bit as they lifted off like they were "wound up" i could rotate em by hand and the opposite one and prop rotated as well, finally got in and started it up shifted up and down while shifting hi/low (in neutral and park) and felt a big "clunk" 4wd light went off and rear wheels only rotated, tried it in 4wd and all wheel rotated, did this several times and seems to be opperating as it should,
Rick! it felt like it was jamming but i cut plenty of tunnel away dureing the lift so it was;nt that, Thanks guys for your replys, and thank god for these sites, guess there's a few like me that'd be in the $hite without em!
I'm doing the ball joint nipples while its up, the o/s top just took two guns full of grease, never been done i think, pumped the rubber up nicely,
