head gone?

hi peeps.
om my93 2.4d steam started to come from bonnet so i stopped straight away. A.A. did a test and said that head gasket had gone. next day i filled it with coolant and it started as normal, tickover and slightly revving the engine was spot on. there is no water in the oil. it is, however pumping out water from the tube in the expansion tank. does this mean gasket or head gone.

It's most likely the head.
What kind of test did the AA guy do, did he test for exhaust gasses in the coolant using a coloured dye?

If you fit it yourself then under a grand, otherwise put at least 1500 aside.
