  • off road up mont blanc

    hello everyone
since our hotel has tinternet i thought i would get on. bad thing is the keyboard is french layout... top line is azerty not qwerty and thats only the beginning!
anyway, yesterday we decided to see how far we could get up mont blanc in the surf, you should of seen how steep the inclines were! we got above the first set of clouds and the ski lifts were still above us. ears started to pop. i only had 1/4 tank of fuel so didnt find out how high the road went but on the way back down i stopped for a photo and just as i snapped this 750 fiat panda came flat out up the hill (not the steep ones). only fwd and the wheels were constantly spinning up but it was going!
i will post up the pic when im back home.
anyway, leaving for the sun tomorrow
hope all is good in sunny england

No, but some of us have to go to work you know

Nice one, the old fuel don't last long in the Alps does it?

How high up di you get? and how did the surf cope with the altitude?

Much snow up there, spose it's still pretty dry, mid summer and all.

Glad to here you got some off roading done so soon.

Have fun, and keep us posted.

regarding seals i couldnt post this earlier for some reason:
i changed them no problemo. no leaks, but i had been using diesel about 2 days before. when i got to chamonix here in france i noticed a patch under the car, hoping it was some othere french banger, unfortunately not, my car is leaking again. but it must have just been that day cos i was getting exceptional fuel economy.
so i filled with diesel and within 24 - 36 hours the leak had gone. its just got diesel in now and not a spot of a leak and no smell of it either.
i got to fill up with veg tomorrow to head down to monaco. i still got 80 litres of it in the boot of the car.
i was putting in 40 litres then filling up to the brim with derv. price varies over here loads for derv. from 89cents to 1.3 euros!
i pulled in a garage to put the veg in and i got told off and told to leave by the french woman working there. is it illegal to use veg over here? she closed my fuel flap and kept going on saying no....

about altitude, we got to about 2000 metres. surf is fine pretty much. its been raining last 2 days, clouds cleared earlier and we could almost see the peak. the snow level has fallen meaning there is more snow up there now. if you go to the top via the two cable cars, you can walk out through the gate onto the peak and walk back down through the snow.
            sees ya later beaches tomorrow
