  • Adjusting the drivers door hinges

    Folks,

The drivers door on my 2nd gen must be slightly out of alignment with the body when its closed as its rubbing and cutting into the rubber seal around the door frame...

I think it needs lowering just a fraction. Any ideas how this is done?

Which bolts do I need to adjust? Is it the ones that go into the door or the body? Both look pretty hard to get to....

Any suggestions on how to do this would be most welcome..

    Thanks.
    Regards,
    Andrew

Adjust the bolts on the body.
Check the hinge pins first though, as they wear causing the door to drop slightly.

      Thanks Bushwacker.

Just been out and had a close look at the problem. I now reckon the door needs raising slightly! So it could well be the pins...

How do they come out? They don't look as if they are removable...

And does anyone know where I get new ones?

      Thanks
      Regards,

Also found them on the Roughtrax site.

Looks like I would have to remove both the door and wing to replace the hinges. Guess its time to decide whether to bodge it by adjusting what's there or fit new ones and have to adjust them too. Ah, decisions...

          Thanks for the help.

If there's play on the door I'd fit ne ones. I made a bar with a hole in it for knocking out hinge pins by drifting in the new ones you don't need to remove the door then.

I haven't looked trucks away with Mrs H are the pins set into the hinge?

You maybe able to replace the pins but you need a special toolvery similar to a mini slidehammer. In my opinion (as an ex semi skilled panel beater ) I would think the main part of the hinge will be worn so new hinges is the proper way to do it . You can adjust the wear out as suggested by raising the hinges . Best place a cloth ontop of a trolley jack and place it under the middle of the open door . This will stop the door dropping as you undo the bolts and also allow you to lift the door (CAREFULLY) with the jack.Sometimes you only need to move the top hinge in towards the wing to adjust the wear from hinge , as the door tends to drop outwards more then downwards , if you understand me (which most people dont).

I was wondering about supporting the door whilst messing with the hinges. Sounds like a good idea. Thanks.

I've decided to try adjusting the existing hinges for now. But once this darn weather dries up for a while I will probably replace them anyway.

                Thanks
