  • Security Deal?

Just reading the thread about Maxx's truck being nicked got me thinking, and this is purely a quick thought at the moment and i haven't asked the guy...

...I have a friend who's a fully qualified and registered MESF auto electrician (thatcham approved alarm fitter) he only really deals with Clifford alarms which aint cheap, (but there's a reason for that), he's one of the best fitters in the south east and an honest guy working for himself, he's an offroader himself (unfortunately a member of the green oval clan) so appreciates things like water ingress causing problems.

How many people would be interested in a forum deal on clifford cat 1 alarms, he wouldn't normally give discount but i have a feeling if it was a case of garanteeing say 5 or 10 alarms (or more) he might consider it, i will ask anyway if there's interest.

His thatcham cat 1 alarm would be a Clifford concept 650 v.2 with dual circuit immobilisation, battery backup siren, two 5 button remotes, choice of sensors (either dual zone proximity sensor, tilt & motion, ultrasonic interior sensor think there are others too), door boot and bonnet protection, blackjax anti hijacking system, etc etc etc.... there's also extra options that could be added at additional cost - remote window control, remote start, headlight activation, mobile phone wizardry, extra sensors etc the list goes on. But if there was interest i would talk to him and try and get a deal on the basic price.

I appreciate we are not in the most central location and unfortunately although he his a mobile fitter he only really covers kent and east sussex, so people may have to travel down here. His normal retail price for the above system would be £450 fully fitted for the basic alarm and one sensor, i appreciate it's not cheap, but it really is a good alarm and i wouldn't have anyone else fit one on my own car.

With a discount for members i would still expect the price to be in the region of £350 - £400 depending on people comitting to having it done.

    Hi Nero

    Great idea mate

I would recommend any thing that helps prevent theft my only worry with alarms is that they tend to get ignored these days by general public who only complain after they have been kept awake for 20 minutes.

It's great if your sleeping near by so it will wake up the vehicle owner.

My sister recently had a fault on her car alarm she drove through the city with it going off even passed 2 police cars who didn't pay any heed!!

Immobilizers in connection with an alarm are brilliant. so are Rottweiler's in the back.

Yep alarms are good for waking up the owner.

that's just my opinion each to their own mate.

Anything that deters these B****dars is good.

The above alarm has a built in immobiliser. No alarm will stop a professional thief who specifically wants your car or something out of it, but a good one will be a strong deterrent to the opportunists, joy riders, pikeys and so on. Clifford alarms are identifiable to a thief and the chances are they will do one of two things, either walk away and try the next motor, or set it off and hide, set it off and hide and do this enough times you get fed up and turn the alarm off.

There is an alarm on the market now with basically a mobile phone built in, if it goes off it rings a pre-set phone number, and you can listen to what's going on in the car, and talk back if you choose, you can then use your phone to lock/unlock the doors, turn the alarm on/off, start/stop the engine etc etc. built in handsfree kit, in fact all the details are here, http://www.falcon-security.com/products/car_alarms/ , the one right at the bottom of the page, but it's not thatcham approved, and probably costs more than the clifford above.

I could get a price for this aswell but IMO the Clifford is the better alarm, and if you want extra piece of mind it can be interfaced with a proper satellite tracking system rather than a GSM one, or have a txt alert module added on so it sends a txt to your phone when the alarm goes off.

i'd absobl**dylutly LOVE somet like that! You cant put a price on peace of mind. After having my wheels stolen out of my garden i thought what if it had been the surf stolen instead! I know its extreme but as we've seen... It DOES happen!

I can deal with smashed windows and a missing Cd player! But to lose the surf.... I'd f**king knee cap the b*stard who tries it!!

Yep I like the Idea of the link to mobile phone wonders of modern technology.

I'd like to have one of those mouse trap ones that have reinforced glass so when the B ds get inside they get locked in and have to wait for my arrival
