  • New forest show.

We had a great day on Wednesday, despite the rain, glad we had a 4x4 getting out the car park.

Not much fun for the people showing horses, mud and heavy lorrys don't mix.

Check this out, this is serious 4x4 pulling power, and still it didn't move!

And this was only a 7.5t truck, imagine some of the big HGV horseboxes stuck

Some pics of the lorry park..

you would have thought that the organises would have cancelled the event, or at least put mesh down. That use to happen near us for some fun-fairs visiting...it was mandated that they needed to have mesh layed down where the vehicles would travel.

the damage to that area of land will take ages to recover unless they're going to skim it.

We've been having this discussion about the Game Fair on other forums, everyone was already there, a lot of peoples livelyhoods depends on one or two shows a year. Once everthing is set up, it just as much aggro to pack up and tow people out whether you wait till the proper end of the show, or cancel it straight away.

I think you should battle on, and make the most of it.

Plow and roller that field, I'd bet any money in 6 months you'd never know anything had been driving over it.

What buggered it up most was there was no on-site stabling, but leaving the every night to go to local yards is what made life hard for the horse boxes.

I think we'll base our next horse lorry on one of the Russian 4x4 or 6x6 trucks!

thats the reason why the three counties shows have been cancelled for the weekend (Arab show). Booked time off work to go today....there was just too much standing water and even the company that erects temporary stables stated they would'nt do anymore last weekend with a few shows already cancelled. The bedding put down would just soak up the water and render it useless.

Have to say though that the walkways around the main show ground were not nearly that bad. The organisers had done a great job of putting down straw and chippings so yes it was muddy, but not deep and perfectly negotiable.

On the horse side - yep the lorry park and collecting ring were dire, but it didn't seem to affect the number of competitors in the ring - most classes were packed, and the rings held up quite well until Thursday when it poured most of the day. On Wed there were tracks which were muddy, but overall rings were not that bad. I've shown in worse.

I went on Tuesday and had a great time even got sun burned !. The best thing for me was the terrier racing haven't laughed so much in ages. Some of those dogs all be it small have a big personality. Did see a few other surf including a Burgundy one that parked next to me (a blue one) . Didn't have any problems getting out as the car park on that day seem ok not to many muddy patches :-( Although today (I work in Lyndhurst) did see that most of the cars leaving the show were very muddy and so now are the road around the area. Did find it funny when I saw a convoy of brand new Land Rovers (on trade plates) covered in mud and to think they still need to sell these ! hope they clean them well.
