  • Nearly cr*pped myself, HELP!

I was driving home from work today down the motorway, doing a steady 65-70. All of a sudden the Surf violently jerked to the left. I nearly sh*t my pants. Luckily I was in the inside lane, if I had been overtaking I would probably have hit something.

Obviously I pulled over onto the hard shoulder, and did a quick look-see. Nothing. All tyres still there, still round. Nothing loose, nothing wobbly, no grinding noises. Nothing.

Anyway, got off the motorway as soon as possible, and drove home slowly and carefully, and without incident thankfully.

So, anyone got any ideas what happened? A couple of weeks ago I was hearing a slight grinding noise that I thought might be a bearing on the left side going, but it stopped and I've not heard it since.

    HELP!

It was over in a flash.

Wish I had the same power as a Lambo though.

I didn't see anything, the surface was dry and clear, and it would have to have been pretty big to have caused such an effect.

I did wonder if something had maybe flown into the brakes and momentarily caused them to jam on.

Have you checked the brakes yet that's the most obvious one I can think of at moment Has been recorded before as cause of an RTA.

              Cheers JB

I'm going to get the front wheels off in a bit and check for any obvious signs of a problem. Other than that I guess it was just 'one of those things'.

Trouble with 'one of those things' is that it's always in the back of your mind that it will happen again!

It dont take a really big rock to throw the steering especially if like me ya drive along with your hands just resting on the wheel most of the time, one get a little lazy that way, goes to show how easy accidents happen tho

Check your outer CV joints, if one jams it'll not rotate and turn the wheel instead.

Best thing to do is jack the truck up at the front and check the wheel bearings are ok!

Then go from the wheels inwards checking all the steering components. Check all your tie rods, drop arms etc and all the track rod ends. Then check your steering column, steering box etc. Start the truck and get some one to turn the wheels full lock each way, check underneath while this is being done to check for any movement.

Thats all I can think of really. I suppose a dry seized wheel bearing might cause this, but as it's ok now, that's probably far fetched!

Hope you sort it soon mate?

Were you talking on your mobile at the time? There have been reports of signals interfering with the ECU mounted in the passenger footwell. I`d keep those chats short, quick and only in the slow lane if I were you
