  • Winch bumper material.

Contemplating gettin a winch bumper under construction. Kind of ARB style, so lots of plate involved.

So what will i need??? ( apart from 80 hrs and a lot of patience).

Dont know what thickness of plate to use for the main construction. Dont want it to heavy, yet it'll have to be strong ( thats the tin foil idea out the window).

I'm even going to do it all in cardboard first,so i can keep the templates for future reference. Which is totaly against the way i work,i'm usualy work it out as i go along not taking much notes

I'll do some sketches for you guys approval as well.

Oh.don't you guys think i'll have it done next week either Might be a Christmas present to my self, the speed i get things done.

2mm-3mm should be fine, just triangulate and seam weld stress points

      Cheers Mark.
I want to try keep the winch as high as possible as well. Think the highest for a base plate would be the hight of the existing bumper brackets plus an inch or 2??? If i get the cradle for winch sorted i could just build the rest round it.

i was working on the idea of a drop bracket attached to the front crossmember between the original bash plate mountings.just gotta watch you dont close off to much of the rad with the winch if you mount it high up.

actually smithy, you could use 3mm plate to make the bumper itself and then reinforce the winch section with 4-5mm plate then weld this to the the 2mm bumper carcass.giving you 7mm around the winch area and stress points.

Jeeeez. Did i say which Christmas this would be done for????

Dont think the winch would be higher than original bumper, but i know what you mean about covering up to much of the rad.

I'll get some sketches done to show how my bizarre brain is thinking
