  • Satisfyingly greasy nipples

    No, not a spam but...

In prep for next weekends festivities I've been under the truck tonight greasing my nipples. All went well with satisfying amounts of grease coming out of where it should do, except...

... the ball joints. Couldn't seem to get any grease in either side. Are the nipples in this position prone to get full of crud and block up? If so, can I get new ones easy enough?

You need to remove the blanking plugs and fit nipples. Angled ones are best.

      Blanking plugs???

But the grease gun clips on as per a nipple...

Have I just made a schoolboy error?

Some balljoints dont have nipples fitted just the blanking plugs.

have you changed your ball joints at any time? as the original ones that were on my truck were non greasable.

but the new ones from roughtrax are greasable

          just a thought

          cheers scotty

They are, Toyota fit a small bolt to block the holes, to stop crud getting in or grease squeezing out if the nipples get broken off while offroading. you need to take the blanking plugs out and fit grease nipples. You're supposed to put the plugs back after greasing them, but most people just leave the nipples in.

3rd gen's have non-servicable sealed for life ball joints though.

Schoolgirl more like! Surely you can tell the difference between a nipple and plug.

The little ball in the grease nipple can rust up, so you need stainless nipples if you want to leave them in, or put the blanking plugs back.

I'll have another look tomorrow when it's light.

Any more hidden nipples I need to find? There used to be a drawing on here somewhere with them all on didn't there?
