Anyone know of anyone in the north east who can sort out my air con, hasn't worked since I had a new crank pulley fitted ( think that they must have de-gas ed the systemwhen they stripped it down).

There i no need to de-gas the aircon to change the crank pulley, so if they did it, get them to re-gas it or tell them to find someone who can.

      Do what I did...
go to halfrauds and explain that your AC is not blowing as cold as you'd like. They advertise a free check - which in my local store (sunderland centre) meant me borrowing a fill gauge from a large can off the shelf and testing my level of gas. (small can only comes with fill hose - large can has fill hose with gauge)
my system pressure was ok but low(25psi), so i only had to buy a small can of gas for £19.99.
If you need a complete refill - the large can costs £39.99. Piece of pi$$ to fill up.
If you check your system and the pressure is ok (25 - 45 psi) them your problems may lie elsewhere - ie with the company who fitted your pully.
      Everyone thinks I'm paranoid!!

ah, but he'll not be on r134a gas mate, so the gas that halfords sell is incompatable with the system he's running.

do a search on here mate, i think i remember someone posting a link to a replacement for the r22??? gas

It depends if it's been converted or not, mines the same age, and runs on modern gas.

My system needs to be re-gased but is running on the R134a gas.

However after talking to a local garage, the lad sounds like he knows what he is talking about. Told me straight away that the system needs modifying for our gas. Quoted about £100 for all the work.

            Give these a call and see what they say;

            South Hetton Garage
            South Hetton Industrial Estate
            Co Durham
            DH6 2UZ

            Tel; 0191 5173849

Not to far away either, should know as my mother was born in willington & my gran still lives there.

D'oh, I got the gases mixed up ! Mine was still running on R12 and needs converting to R134a and thats what i got priced.

Thanks for spotting the deliberate mistake Taliesins. Not been a good week but at least I'm off fishing tomorrow.

In that case the price is OK. Vac out the old gas. replace seals. and regas.

These guys advertise on my works intranet - and have been recommended by a few lads at work. Called RADTEK
£35 is their standard rate for quick once over / clean / re-gas.
