  • Intercooler Fitting and Wiring Connections

Gent's, the one I have has the fan and all the electrical connections that I assume wire upto the TPS, somehow.
    It's off a Sh1tsubishi.
My question is: Can this be properly connected up to work on my truck? Has/can anyone here do/done this?

I didn't have the fan with mine so no idea.

I would have thought the connection would be temperature activated - as the air gets too hot (slow moving traffic) the fan would kick in drawing air over the intercooler

what you need is a temporature sensor that will flick that relay to operate the switch. and do you know what, i have a temperatire sensor that i made when i was messing about at college, surely the LEDs can be de-soldered and a relay soldered in.
i think its 9v though so you'll have to use a bl00dy great big resistor

To be perfectly honest i would probably just wire it to an ignition switched supply with an override switch in the cab, so you can turn the fan off on long haul motorway trips or something as it'll be doing nothing at more than say 25 - 30mph anyway.

That means I'll have to find an electrician then.

I'd seen that thread. I am looking for the most simple way of connecting and assume that will be to utilise the connectons oN the stuff I have. Just got to get the lift kit and fit it, then I can see the clearance I have for the intercooler and fan.
I want to centre fit the L200 scoop I have which will be a nice fit over the intercooler. If not I can fit the Subaru one which will leave loads of space.

If it's a 2" lift your doin there'll be plenty of room on top, MattF's good at stuff like that but he hase'nt been on much lately,
Got mine piped up, those hoses are bigger than you think, and seem to get bigger every time i look at it, thought i'd gain a lot of room with the lift, getting rid of the AC stuff and EGR nonsense, but there seems less room in there now than there was before,
Started cutting out holes in the wing today for the snorkels and the sodding file slipped and put a frikin scratch down the wing

Would be fairly simple I think. +ve from ign live, via a suitable fuse, through an air thermostat (with a fairly low switching point I'd have thought cos the air through the intercooler is only ever going to be warm when you're staionary, the rest of the time it will be ambient) and then through the fan to earth.

I'd have thought a switching point of about 40 degrees would be suitable. Why not use an old mechanical 'stat' from a central heating system as a start point?

What I really need is, someone to say "I can do that, jump in your truck and bring loads of beer or Scotch and pay for my lunch in exchange for cutting your truck up and fitting your intercooler and connecting the fan" Also whilst your here, I'll help you fit that lift kit and those LC springs.

I'm off to check my lottery tickets.

If you drink Scotch try, Bunaharenn, not spelt like that, kind of like Bunnahabain. It's fantastic.

Is it feasible to take a feed from the ECF? The idea being when that kicks off, the intercooler fan will do too - if this would work, could someone show me how, cos I'd like to do it with the fan that came with my intercooler!

There would be way too much lag. The second you stop at traffic lights or busy junctions, you'd get pretty much instant heat soak of a top mount cooler.

Independent stat is the way to go.

Could you do me a wiring diagram and advise on parts Andy?
