dont get my vote , dont like it, i think they have spoilt the shape, 2nd gen for me best shape of the lot in a few years time you will not hardly be able to tell the difference in different models apart from the badge

Actually launched late last year, for 2003 model year.

Only problems are its lost the drop down tailgate and even worse I believe its lost the seperate chassis, what next ? Front wheel drive or some other monstrosity. Not for me.

I think it needs a two tone paint job to look it's best. Agree that the 2nd gen is the best shape.

Even that is out of my price league though. Good thing my old '94 is so good!

you'll need big deep pockets with a motor like that because it will be a main dealer job if anything goes wrong, it needs £20,000 worth of computer to tell you what it is

Well folks I don't want to be the fly in your oinkment [for a stye in your eye] but I like it. I admit that the loss of a separate chassis is sad, but I like the shape.

I agree with Silver Surfer. I've seen many of these in the USA on my travels and I like the shape. I'll leave the mechanical / technical side of things to you chaps to voice your opinions on!

I like mine better - trouble with new shapes is that they all start to look the same -and I really like the distinctive looks of the older surfs - have to say though that the tailgate does get on my nerves sometimes - esp with the spare on the back - it does take ages to open/close when walking the dogs. BUT that's just a minor niggle on a fantastic car!

WHO was that goddam sinner who dissed the rear window on the 2nd gen?!!! lets have him shot in the shed off to the side of the forum, I have the gun and ammo ready.
Has anyone come across a more versatile method of tailgate? I don't think so!!!

they dont seem to have changed the rims too much in 12 yrs...

and in a few years its seems they all will look the same just the motor company's badges will differ, but they're all gettin more like the surf not the other way round. When I look at a Mitsi GLS or Hyundai Santa Fe I see Surf influences in the shape ... theyd call it sampling in the music biz. And when I see a new Mitsi Pajero I cant help but think an old hoover without the handle

Opps, what I meant to say was drop down tailgate window.
I've a 96 too and prefer the convienience of the hatch over the drop down (had a 93 before), but at least we keep the leccy window
