  • What An Afternoon

What an afternoon! Thought I'd have a run out to find the Weardale Offroad centre. Decided to cut across the moors etc and drop down to Stanhope where there's a nice ford to wade through.

First off I'm putting diesel in at the filling station when some old guy asks, "What are you going to do when they ban those things?" Luckily he was only on about the bull bar and not the Surf. Took time out to explain it was only the sale of bull bars not actually having them fitted.

So I set off for a nice quite drive. Half way across the moors I pull in to admire the secenery in a layby which was on a tight bend. Sat there for about 10 minutes when 4 Dutton Phaetons come roaring up the road and overtake a Renault Megane on the corner of this steep hill, of course there's something coming the other way and the guy in the Megane has to virtually pull into the ditch to let these t0ssers past. These are all guys in their 30's and 40's by the way.

Carried on to Stanhope for a nice paddle in the ford, then headed towards Weardale. Driving along a nice straight country road I spy in my mirror a motorbike fast approaching from the rear. I pull over a little to let him through and guess what? He's being chased by a Lotus Elise and a BMW M3. Well the bike gets past followed by the Lotus which cuts me up because there's a car coming the other way, but that's not all, the idiot in the M3 is following him and nearly takes the bull bar off the front of the Surf.

But revenge is sweet, they have to slow down for the traffic in front and I manage to sit on the M3's bumper for a mile, this guy must have been cr@pping himself as I don't think he took his eyes off his rear view mirror. Mind you I'd have cr@pped myself if they had all pulled up sharply!

I really admire you lot who show restraint when these things happen (but then again I admire those of you who don't)!

So, all in all, a nice entertaining afternoon.

Sound like you had a very pleasant afternoon despite the death wish encounters and the wise guy at the filling station.

I must get out more but hey now my grass is short for another 2 weeks.

    Cheers JB

Oh, you've just reminded me on, I was supposed to mow the lawn this afternoon while the wife was at her mothers!

To late now, I'm just about ready to leave for a couple of pints down the club. Ah, well. There's always tomorrow.

Picture taken on my mobile phone with 2 megapixel camera. I was quite suprised at the quality. I normally carry a cheap 1.3 megapixel camera in the Surf and one the car, they would come in really handy if you were involved in a bump that wasn't your fault.

Nokia 6280, although I hanker after the Nokia 95.

Yeah, it is nice Ian. I'm really lucky as Newcastle town centre and Gateshead Metro Centre are only 10 minutes drive away, on the other hand the coast is only half an hour and that beautiful countryside is about the same.

I also discovered I'm only 20 miles away from the Weardale offroad site.

have you heard of the 7710? i have this too, its touch screen, handwriting recognition, has excel, word and a powerpoint application built in - nokias own. i was using it for a whole year and never deleted a txt message. it never said i had to. must of had almost a thousand on it. shame it only has a 1.3mp camera, but there is a memory card sized chip you can buy. when you remove the nokia memory card and put this one in it has everything on it to watch digital tv. it has the application that will install on the phone, it has a tuner, and uses the phones already built in equipment to recieve the signals and display them on the screen.
i cant find the website for this though.
i can also run sat-nav on the 7710 with the external bluetooth gps reciever.
if i had these two apps running i would hard wire my phone into my car. since it has the touch screen it would be perfect. its too bulky for the pocket. slimmer than the n95 but bit longer
