  • Switch sign (vehicle not in p or n or a/c on)

Anyone know what or where this is. My truck has been poorly for weeks and has me clueless. It keeps reving up and down on its own, the check light flashes on and off and chuffs out black and grey smoke. Have checked all the vacuum hoses changed the throttle posistion sensor and checked all the electrical sockets. Have now checked the fault codes and is throwing up No 11 which is Switch sign ( vehicle not in p or n or a/c on) any ideas anyone.
    Steve.

Probably not much use here but the last time I encountered this problem was a servo/vac hose on a Mazda with cruise control, went bonkers every time the wheel was turned.

Did you disconnect and reconnect battery once you fitted a new switch ?Switch signal sounds like wot you have changed but I could be wrong . Try to reset ECU by disconnecting battery for 1/2 hr or so and then reconnecting .

Yes at first it threw up lots of codes. Then I disconected the battery and cleared them all bar No 11. But I have no idea what this switch is or its whereabouts.

What is the exact description the code list gives for error 11?

Clueless? No. Description, that is not. That is gobbledegook. What list have you found that so called description on?

Have a peek in this thread:

                      http://www.hiluxsurf.co.uk/forums/sh...ht=error+codes

Also, when you say the engine hunts up and down, is it just when parked, or whilst driving, or both?

Both, there is a lever that opperates the butterfly valve in the throttle body. This goes up and down on its own ticking over, reving or driving it over fuels, rattles and pumps lots of smoke out when this happens.

May be worthwhile putting a thread on the Oz site, or seeing if Nev adds anything to this thread later. They seem to have done more fault finding/analysis/disassembly of the intake manifold and its respective controls. They may have some suggestions as to where the fault may lie.

Thanks Matt that other guy said his problem was solenoid number 1. Do you have any idea where that is?
                            Steve.

I may well be wrong, but I think that's part of/related to, the gearbox.
