  • Leaking tent

This is my brand new tent after a a few hours in the rain I bought it for the Salisbury do.

It's going back for a refund as soon I can dry it out, it's still outside atm and it won't stop raining long enough to pack it up.

I'm going to swap it for a roof rack

Take it back with the water still inside it to prove it leaked
Mine WAS a 150 bhp V6 and ran on PETROL

That's normal. A brand new tent has to get wet. It then helps all the stitching to swell and fill the gaps, so tightening everything up. Once dried, the next time it rains should see it stay dry. If it leaks on the sewn seams then you can use a seam sealer on them to add a bit more protection.

Oh, and don't try touching the inside whilst the outer is wet, otherwise you will draw moisture through the fabric and create a path for more water to follow.

I thought that applied to cotton tents not PVC ones ?

as the seams are taped they should not leak

Most I've had have been ok from day one and never leaked, that looks fupped , I'd take it back

That is after it has dried out and without anyone in it, I would not expect a new tent to leak, our £7.99 Asda tent that the kids play in does not leak

Even the roof was leaking onto the inside vent.

Looks like they sell a Full Length Rain Fly for using it in the rain

I don't think its very suitable for the UK really

            FAQ

Do I need to use a seam sealer on my Sportz tent?
While the Sportz tents’ rain flies are seam sealed, the tents themselves are not manufactured with a seam sealer on the tents’ seams. Before using your tent, make sure to put a seam sealer on all seams to ensure maximum waterproofing. This is not a manufactures defect, and therefore will not accept returns based on the absence of seam sealer on the tents.
So it does need sealing before use, nice if the instructions said that.

Easiest way to do this, is to pitch the tent with the outer inside out, if that makes sense...Makes it much easier to applier the seam sealer. if you can find somewhere indoors to do this, then you wont get flies and leaves and all sorts of muck stuck in the gloop.
              it's in me shed, mate.

Looks like you need to buy a rain fly as well then, especially if using in the UK.

Even if you have a PVC material roof and sides, they still get punctured by the stitching and it's that that causes most of the leaks, until the threads have swelled and filled all the holes.

That's the same tent as mine. Bought it four years ago and has been OK.

It rained all night once when camping but it stayed dry inside.

It's still leaking very badly, it's even coming through the roof which is meant to be seam sealed

some tents are only shower proof not down falls. That tent is iffy to say the least Matt, i would take it back and go to a good camping shop. Ours is a sun camp, 12 man..cost £290 ish and has been brill. Its the same old saying, ya get what ya pay for. Take it back Matt, wet or not makes no odds.

sometimes touching the sides when it pours can let water in also condensation does the same but some tents need to get wet before they usable as it helps to seal them some not all tents but go back n ask the place you bought it from they should know
