  • I have been robbed!!

As some of you may be aware my wheel bearing poped and leaked $$$$ onto my pads and drum etc.
After taking it to a garage in Bulford i thought that i had left it in safe hands.
The company are called Car Klinic and do alot of 4x4s. They quoted around £250-£300 for the job to include replacing the anti roll bar bushes. This i thought was steep at the time but was in no position to argue.
I just got off the phone to them to find out what is happening. It turns out you need a special tool or something to get the wheel bearing out and same to put a new one in. The garage didnt have this "tool" so had to manufacture something. This made the labour time mount up.
The long and short of it is the price is £500 for the work and they didnt manage to do the anti roll bar bushes.
I feel i have had my pants pulled down over this price but would like any feedback you may have.
I am Fcuked off beyone belief

Bollox mate. They're having a laugh. An extra £200 to manufacture a tool? Even at £30 an hour I don't see how they could have spent 6 and a half hours making a tool. Citizens advice beckons methinks, or a solicitor.

As if you need telling, £500 is outrageous. I don't know how hard a job it is, but £500 for a bearing is insane. The part costs all of £15, so that leaves £485 in labour - about the same as having a head replaced.....

I would tell them to go swing for it. If you wanted a tyre changed you don't pay for the jack. They should have called you first when they realised they did not have the kit for the job plus they have not completed the work in the quote, they are trying it on.

Get in touch with trading standards first, and get their advice. Then let the garage know you're unhappy and have informed trading standards. See where it goes from there.

Well at the very least ask for the "specialist tool" as you have more than payed for it. If I lived closer I would bring a few of my large friends to go chat with them.

If they ain't got the tools to do the job, then they should not attempt the job!

As a plumber, if I haven't got the tools to do a specific job then I buy them and swallow the cost.

Only in the motor trade does this kind of theft go on.

I would tell them you want it at the oroginal quote or you want the "special" tool as you paid for it.

I aggree, thats a rip off, dont pay and get some leagle advise, i dont trust any of these garages, never really had to go to one except for MOT's but know plenty of people who have and have been screwed, think i'd only trust Tony'N, Stevo etc, even if it means travelling the lenght of the country to get it fixed, could be cheaper in the long run.
