a bearing puller isn't exactly a specialist tool!...

they must be complete to$$ers to have much trouble with it.... it's eactly the same setup (pretty much) as most japanese 4x4s.

After taking it to a garage in Bulford i thought that i had left it in safe hands.
The company are called Car Klinic and do alot of 4x4s. They quoted around £250-£300 for the job to include replacing the anti roll bar bushes. This i thought was steep at the time but was in no position to argue.
I just got off the phone to them to find out what is happening. It turns out you need a special tool or something to get the wheel bearing out and same to put a new one in. The garage didnt have this "tool" so had to manufacture something. This made the labour time mount up.
The long and short of it is the price is £500 for the work and they didnt manage to do the anti roll bar bushes.
I feel i have had my pants pulled down over this price but would like any feedback you may have.

Ok so here is the update.
Got the cash out ready just incase i had to pay up. Went and talked to two big old army pals on the camp i am working. Luckily one was on guard so he had a rifle for intimidation. Went to the place to find out what was happeneing.
Found out that the reason it cost so much was because the bearing or whatever had welded itself to the shaft meaning they couldnt use the 46ton press because it wasnt man enough. They had to file the part off inch by inch.
The parts were £68 for the bearing and £60 for the pads. and 9 hrs labour at £45 an hour. I went fcuking mental and said they are taking the pi$$ cause they didnt call me when the cost was spiraling. It started getting messy with lots of the mechanics coming to see what was happening.
We ended up agreeing for me to pay £350 cash. I paid the (c u next tuesday) guy and went on my way.

Bushwaker that article is spot on!

The moral of the story is .........caption time?

Apparently the grinder would risks damaging the shaft and thats not good.

Sucks you had so much hassle Chris, sorry I couldn't sort it out for you.

When it starts leaking again cos they hammered the coller to far up the shaft you can get you money back and bring it here.

How do you file a bearing.. its hardend steel? They where taking the right royal p1ss there. They will have used a big juicy grinder and a chissle for the last bit surely ?
