Pikeys fly tip anyway, 'the clear your shed/garden/house for £50 quid mate' and it ends up blocking the local byway that evening is legendary, but what is does incourage is average people to fly tip and make the countryside look even scummier.

Some councils in their 'wisdom' are re-introducing the free old car disposal service, instead of charging you £50 and the problem of abandoned cars virtually disappears! Go figure!

    Fools.

I've not had any hassle with Linda's truck being sign written at our local dump, but any car that needs a test good test drive normally does it via the local tip with a few barrels of old engine oil just in case

Which I don't feel bad about, as it all get recycled, so no one loses out.

I live in a flat with the grounds maintained by the housing association. We have green wheelie bins that we used to put cardboard in. It has been said that the amount of cardboard they have collected is too much, so we cannot put any in anymore, only garden waste. So now the bins just sit there empty, also some residents that live in our block have no transport so how are they supposed to help the planet. BL$$DY muppets the lot of them.

By now, I was in serious risk of punching their heads in so I told them to stick their f***** recycling up their f***** brainless ar$es, and that they'd just successfully stopped someone recycling cardboard!

I know exactly how you feel.

You`ve needed a permit for a few years at our local dump.

          Cardboard schmardboard - compost it!

We had a local 'waste meeting' in town a week or so ago and had the local representatives give a talk on all this, they couldn't respond to our van vs flytipping argument so its going to trundle on here too. You guys have given me a good argument not to get the wheel cover done though!

I just composted a load of cardboard in the garden. (I do mail order and although its a small business the boxes do mount up!).

You either dig a big hole in your veg patch and stomp the cardboard boxes into the bottom, cover it over, grow runner beans on it and it will be gone by next year...

          or

collect up all your kitchen greens, egg boxes, egg shells, drive sweepings hoover bag contents and layer it with cardboard in your compost bin/corner/bottomless barrel, again it disappears really quick, so do jumpers and old boiler suits as long as they are cotton or wool.

But yes, write to your local paper, your MP and your local greenies, they are being blamed for this and they don't agree with it either! The decision is coming from the regional waste management groups and needs to be contested. We have fortnightly collections to look forward to now as well, housefly lifecycle = 10 days (I'm told) whats the betting they bring that in in June...grrrr

My local tip is the same, no commecail vehicles, so what do the builders do? they park outside the gate, in full view, and move the waste/debis into the tip on WHEELBARROWS!
As you all know wheelbarrows are NOT commercial vehicles so they are allowed in!

Also I had a letter from the environment agency notifying me that I (as a plumbing/heating engineer) require a licence to remove the old boilers/bathroom suits from my customers houses, and if I transport them to a skip at my house( instead of having a separate skip on every job, which is not economical) I need a licence asn a transfer station aswell!

So my options are to leave all the $$$$ behind for my customer to fly tip, or get fined £5000.00

This it was explained to me was to help prevent fly tipping.

Now what f***ing a*seh*le thought of that?

Our council just delivered wheelie bin no. 3 , a blue one . Great , we now have 1 green , 1 brown and 1 blue wheelie bin . I had just enough room for the green and brown bin , but where do I put the blue one ?
I have now decided it will take about 8 weeks to fill the blue wheelie bin , so I will put it down the backgarden by the garage and fill it until full and then take it to the front to be emptied . I calculate it should be full just as we plan to move out . .
If any council prat wants to know where the bin is he can come and have a look for them selves , for a charge .

Most people here are complaining that if they take a trailer or van up the tip they won't get let in, regardless of whether its a business or not.

In which case, it should be covered by our council tax!

There is a big difference between a small home business using the tip to get rid of recycleble stuff that can be easily reused, and someone like Vodaphone trying use it.

I'm not saying we should get everything for free, but over the last ten years my council tax has doubled and the services provided have been cut.
I remove the old boilers and radiators as a matter of courtesy for my customers, as many of them are either elderly/pensioners ( who cannot afford to pay the council £38.00 to remove the rubbish) or people who do not own vehicles capable of transporting half a ton of old iron.

In my opinion this "waste" came out of a house, therefore it IS household waste and therefore should be removed by the council and recycled as they see fit( and I'm sure they could make enough money to almost cover the cost of collection) under the terms of our council tax contract.
The only reason the council and supermarkets have "recycling" bins for glass and cardboard is that these commodities are worth quite a lot of money when sold on by the ton, again this has nothing to do with being enviromentally friendly, it is purely for business profit. Its is always (only) about the money!!!!

our council will collect for free, you just call them and they send a van round... no limits to how much you can take up the tip either...

when i was delivering furniture, i had to have an environment agency permit to carry waste (old furniture) and then pre-pay the tip £60 for up to a 3.5t van or go to Bracknell and pay by the tonne in an bigger vehicles... we just charged £20 per item to remove from houses.

None of the tips in Edinburgh will let you in with a van of any description, logos or not. Newtongrange in Midlothian will let the smaller escort, peugot, type vans in ( not sure about logos) and trailers seem to be ok. I learned this when I sent my son to a tip in Edinburgh with various junk from my garage/shed/garden in his Astra van. Had to transfer it all to the Surf and go back again till I discovered Newtongrange ( different council)

Ive always beleived that all jobs and the people who do them deserve respect Ive always held bin men in high esteem. Not any more, if youre bin lid is partially open they wont empty it. Put a wee bit of excess baggage at the side of the bin and it gets left. When they do empty the bin it usually gets left in the middle of the road, somewhere along the road or whatever. An honourable job being carried out by dishonorable people with no pride whatsoever. Our recycle bins, which have removable lids, always end up with the lids just thrown anywhere and blowing about in the road getting smashed by passing traffic. Gone are the days when Id give the shiftless lazy jobsworths a bottle of something or a case of beer to share at Xmas.

And dont forget this is BRITAIN, we invented jobsworths, our country is full of them and most of them seem to work for councils. Then again everybody works in government of some sort these days, theres no more real jobs, only government and McJobs left

Of course it's about money, and I never really thought otherwise, it just p1sses me off when they dress it up as 'a good thing'.

Reminds me of a bit from a Bill Bryson book. He was staying in a multistorey hotel he used frequently and on going to where a drinks vending machine had been in an alcove, saw a sign in where the machine had once been.

"For your convenience, the vending machines are now located in the lobby"

It's the same with the two weekly collections. It's about stiffing you for more money for a poorer service, but they seem to be suggesting that it's 'a good thing' for the environment!
