  • It's been a month now..

Well it’s a month since my Surf was fixed (head gaskets) and to be honest I’m now glad I had it done.

I still had an oil leak which took a while to trace… thought it might have been the oil cooler gaskets (which I have ordered just in case), but no! it was leaking from the Oil Filter… (had a small split in the side) couldn’t see it at first because at some stage someone had bent a bracket up out of the way and this was hitting the oil filter. I fitted a new oil filter and this has stopped the pool of oil on the drive. I would have expected the garage to have put a new oil filter on when they changed the oil.

Engine runs fine now, starts first time, idles nicely though sometimes I think it sounds just a little harsh under hard acceleration, but I guess this is just me looking for faults again…. I don’t know anyone local with a V6 which I can compare.

I worked out the fuel consumption yesterday. Driving consisted of the daily commute along A41, lots of traffic lights and rush hour crawl, and not being gentle with the accelerator pedal. Oh, and one evening an 18 mile journey along the M53 @70mph.

The average consumption was 16 MPG!

Just need to take it on some long motorway runs to see how it fairs then.
Mine WAS a 150 bhp V6 and ran on PETROL
