  • Fuel Pump (still)

    Just a little update.

Thought I'd phone Toyota for a price on a new one,I've had bits from this dealer before and they are always very helpfull and sometimes cheaper than the aftermarket stuff.
So I ask for a price on a new fuel pump for my surf.......I hear the guy on the background tapping away at his puter, then I hear in a load voice "Oh my god" and then laughter, he comes back to the phone and I say " so it's expensive then?" and he chuckles and says " Yes, (wait for it) £ 2200.00 + vat.

"Well stone me" I say " I can buy a new car for that" He agrees and phone call ends.

I guess I'll try to get the existing one fixed, or get a second hand one.
Surf is booked in next week to an injection specialist to see if they can trace and repair the leak.

    I'll keep you informed.
    Rob

      2 companies that have a very good reputation within the motor trade are;

      http://www.watsondiesel.com/

      http://www.kentdieselcentre.co.uk/

A friend of mine with a Land Cruiser had a problem with his injection pump
(£3500 + vat for a new one) & the Toyota dealer sent it to Kent diesel to be recond.

      Regards

Is it a bosch pump does anyone know? If so there's a bosch service centre round the corner from me who may or may not be able to help.

I've been told it's a bosche "type" pump therefore not actually a bosche.

Spoke to Bob last week, and he needs the pump removed and sent to him and it'll cost £300 to refurb it plus the P+P plus removal an refitting at this end.
So I'll see if I can get it all done locally first.

shorts of swansea are the only people that i know of that are able to bench test the electronic pumps from our surfs.failing that give nippon auto spares a ring i got a seconhand pump from them for £150 most other f.i specialists will send the pump there anyway.(to shorts that is)

My pump is the mechanical type which seems to be the main problem.
If it was an EFI then I could have got one for £40 +P&P second hand, but the mechanical ones are like hens teeth.

I did a search for landcruiser pumps, but they were all US sites, so no oil burners, ( all petrol engines)or at least no mechanical ones (all EFI) but I'll try again and maybe look for 70 series??

It's more than likely to be a Denso Pump.
