    Hi Tony,

guess you are the guy to ask....

Mate of mine said that manufacturers have to keep a stock of engines for upto 10 years for vehicles they make, and thus I might be able to get a new toyota engine for the sub.

Any knowledge on this? If so, where does one source such a beast?

    much appreciated

Dunno mate, I'd say you could prpbably buy a new 1KZ/T short or long block from them anyway the motor was still in trucks up to at least 2000 as far as I know, but it'd probably cost yah.

Rebuilding old ones is normally far more economical, and a used motor even cheaper.

Is yours that busted then? (this is the first thread I've read today, dunno if you've posted anything elsewhere)

            An engine without the cylinderhead.

Short motor is just the block, long motor is block with head on it.

dunno the score yet, its in for quotes etc, and the insurance will pay out... if its not a write-off, just looking at the options, if its insurance that will pay out, i would prefer a new engine, (wouldnt you!!??) which would possibly be cheaper than mine being removed, rebuilt and re-installed with todays labour charges.

                all options considered.

                3ltr replacement would be prefered!

Surely Stevo's the man to check the engine out and advise on what might need replacing and how much it would cost.

                        bad news / good news

BAD NEWS - the engine, she runs.

                        DAMN.

however, she is chucking out steam like a chinese laundry, so it could have cracked the head.... But it could just be residual water in the system I guess. Is that a possibility guys?? I will run it and see.

I was looking forward to a nice new 3 ltr beast, had my eye on Amo's truck up in Edinburgh.
