  • Garmin eTrex virtual port??????

Just wondering if anyone can help.

Got a Garmin eTrex off e bay. It came with a cable to connect to pc. A 9 pin one plus a usb converter! I don't have a 9pin com port on my PC,so need to use the usb converter, but i don't have a disc fot the usb converter!!

Now............The computer says i need a disc or somethin to create a virtual port (whatever that is) so i can use cable!!!

As you can guess i don't have a clue and possibly the above doesn't even make sense

Anyway can i get a download to create a virtual port??? ( if thats what i need)

    Cheers

            a hint

when you've in installed the driver always make sure you use the same usb port to plug the garmin into, otherwise the pc can get confused and keep adding comm ports.

If you have no luck let me know and i'll try and help. I am using a Garmin with usb adapter and have managed to get it to work ok

                  Alright Dave.

Took my Etrex out today when i took my dad's dog out (used to be mine!!!! ) up the hills today. Managed to get it going and even used the Trackback function. Went out of satellite siganal a few times (only seconds i think). Even manged to bust my knee in the process!! To busy lookin at satellites, altitiude etc etc

So should i have got a cd with mine then,i never seen any on e bay with a cd???
Is it the Etrex yellow one you've got???

Mines the Garmin Vista, same kind of thing though. The cd that comes with the gps costs extra as its software to move maps on and off the gps, as yours doesnt map you dont need it.

Until you get the discs from me the pc wont be able to do anything since there's no software.

                      Heyyyyyyyyyyy.

                      I've done somethin

Downloaded a Denso something?? and it works!!!!
Gave me port 9 as a usb-com port, don't know how it just did.
Found a programme EasyGPS and i now have my trail on the screen, doesn't do much but its on I put 3 way points on and i can click on them and it tells me the altitude etc.ooooooooooooooohhhhh.

My PC will probably self destruct and blow up now!!!!!!
