  • Clock Conversion Confusion

Picked up my Surf this week and have just gone and given it a good run down to the coast today. Chuffed to bits really good relaxing drive, nice and comfy no unusual, unsettling noises and every thing seemed to work and be in order... execpt I was expecting the odometer and trip meter to be counting in Kilomemeters and it was going up in miles. I was of the understanding that when imported just the speedo was relabelled to show mph this car seems to have had the other bits done as well. Is this right?
Good news was that it seemed to do well over 30 mpg though and the weather was great and the dogs fitted well into the boot.

You may have a geared speed reducer fitted to speedo output on gearbox .

Sure it's not 30kmpg as opposed to 30mpg you're getting?! Mine's far more like 30km per gallon!

            definitely 30mpg
Is it quite common for the odometer to be converted then with a geared speed reducer?
Not quite the low milage car I thought it was - still not to bad for the price though I suppose

it will all depend on the importer on how much work they want to do b4 selling

it worked out on the run to salisbury i got about 31 mpg on the run but around town and work it goes down to about 23-25 mpg depends on how i drive it

                Jesus,i get about 200.

Thats what happens when you only do short journeys

I hate it when everyone starts saying how far their fuel goes, I`m always bottom of the list

From the full mark to half isn't the same as from half to empty I've noticed.
It takes longer for the needle to come down from the full mark to the halfway mark, but the needle positively zooms down from the half to empty.

i had noticed that. It's the same as the old escorts and mk1 fiesta's that ive had in the past, you think your doing well on fuel till you hit the 1/2 way mark then it's gone in no time

Oh how I beamed when I first picked my truck up, I filled it up, 45 quid then!
driving around for a couple of days, showing off (as you do) keeping an eye on the fuel gauge thinking, "blimey, this is good on fuel!" then it got to the halfway mark and I could have sworn the needle had a vapour trail coming off it as it entered the empty zone.
