If the Frontera is not to your loking, we also run an Xtrail. Drives like a car especially good with the 2.5 petrol and fully loaded. Everything electric, total comfort. I believe it also beat the Rav 4 in an overall test on top gear. Not that I would give any credibility to JC and his self opinionated rants!

      Still another consideration.

                      Crv

Girlfriend has CR-V. Easy car to drive with auto 4WD system. Drives in 2 wheel drive untill it detects wheelspin then shifts the power to rear wheels as well. Also it is a 5 seater compared to HR-V which only seats 4. Would recommend one, Rav4 not bad either.

Isuzu rodeo denver twin cab, i know it's a pick up and it may not be to everyones tastes, but it's got 5 seats and a little bit of room. They're surprisingly cheap new, i don't know about 2nd hand, and they are very well rated, look good, and get amazing write ups.

I've often read the reactive part-time 4WD system on the honda CR-V can be a bit pants, as by time its reacted its too late - youre stuck,
                          especially in sand
                          not sure about snow though,
I would rather have selectable 4 wheel drive - like 4runner/surf

                          or full-time 4wd

we got a wicked met black suzuki samurai(sj413) on a k plate doing nothing on the drive, it's the wifes, got fat arch kit and alloys, it's got no tax and mot, needs a new starter motor and passenger window needs attention, other than than she's in wicked condition, very clean, not been off road and not at all rusty and looks the 8ollox. it's convertabled and the front window also folds down. gearbox and transfer box is in top drawer condition
bit tight for cash at the moment as been made redundant and got a 1 yr old.
if interested no less than £500.
might be wrong to slip that in. sue me...

small 4x4 , wouldn't have one myself , but the fiat Panda is errr, small , and is available in 4wd, buy one with a manufacturer's warranty left on it and sell it when it runs out

I'd probably go for one of the Fourtrak's or a Zook if it was me. They seem to have the best ground clearance for their size.
