  • What small 4x4 would get the forums recommendations?

My wife needs a 4x4 for work. She's doing damage to her current car doing home visits in the middle of the night on awful farm tracks. Its got to carry 4 adults + day bags so not needing to be massive. Its got to be easy to drive, manoeuvre and be reliable. Looking to buy a 2nd hand, couple of years old.

    Any tips?

    Dave

Jimnys seem to be well thought of, but maybe a bit too small and rattly.

I've driven a RAV4 on unmade roads in New Zealand for a couple of weeks and was very impressed.

        How about a Surf?

        I'd be looking Rav4's.

Whats that little Honda one? Looks like an estate car with more ground clearance? They're pretty affordable 2nd hand and Honda build quality is up there with Toyota so it should last too.

              And they look good

For a small 4x4 I would have to say the Frontera Sport. Mine is on a J reg, had it from new and has been overall reliable. Looks good, not to difficult to get in and out of and prices quite keen now. In my opinion much better than the Suzuki.

CRV is better -- I had one as a company car = 76,000 miles in two years and nothing at all went wrong - bit heavy on petrol if you get the VTEC. But they are now available with an amazing diesel engine.

Although a bit pricey - and you being a Scot and all...LOL

Pretty sure an HRV is 2wd, but I guess if it's just for ground clearance that shouldn't matter.

Did somebody say Frontera????? Must be trying to sell it....

Yeah, Linda had one before she got her Surf, she liked it alot. but not as much as the Surf.

Not sure about newer ones, this was a early 90's one.
